King Salmonid

Cohozuna

General

  • The aim here is to defeat the Cohozuna within the time limit to receive a certain amount of bronze, silver or gold Fish Scales which can be used to unlock items. The amount of scales you receive is based on how fast you can defeat the Cohozuna and there is a possible 2-13 on offer. See the SR Fact Sheet for more details on Fish Scale odds.
  • It is possible to deal damage to the Cohozuna by using your weapons and specials by directly aiming at the Cohozuna. Depending on the strength of your weapon the damage varies. If you defeat bosses, it is possible to throw eggs at the Cohozuna and deal a good amount of damage.
  • Eggs can also be used to defeat bosses which can be very useful. If it requires 1 egg to defeat a boss you get 3 eggs in exchange essentially. Egg throwing doesn’t use up ink like regular waves too so maximise their potential.
  • The Cohozuna jumps approximately every 15 seconds so at: 85, 70, 55, 40 and 25 seconds. May be useful to remember this when throwing eggs so you don’t miss.

Strategy

  • Ideally, if teammates can stay close together and work as a team to defeat bosses and clear lessers efficiently, you can deal a great amount of damage to the Cohozuna by throwing the resulting eggs at it.
  • If static bosses such as Big Shots, Flyfish or Stingers spawn then try to deal with them quickly (specials can help) and get back to the area where the Cohozuna is. Remember that it is possible to throw eggs at these bosses and one shot Stingers and Flyfish if you aim above the cockpit at the lids.
  • If many bosses spawn at a certain area that is far from the Cohozuna’s current location, consider luring it closer to those eggs of the defeated bosses so the eggs can be utilised for damaging the Cohozuna.
  • When you have downtime, always be shooting at the Cohozuna. While it may not feel like much damage, it is better than sitting and watching. It can be beneficial for higher DPS weapons – such as the Hydra Splatling, Sploosh and Dapple Dualies – to focus more on damaging the Cohozuna instead of slaying regular bosses, if bosses are kept under control. Consider focusing more on regular boss splats if your teammate has a powerful weapon that is better focused inflicting damage on the Cohozuna.
  • Some players like the “1-3” strategy where one player is with the Cohozuna at all times so it is targeting them, thus manipulating where you want it to go while shooting at it too. The other three work on clearing bosses/lessers then throwing the resulting eggs.
  • On some maps (like Sockeye), it may be wise to lure the Cohozuna to the shore where bosses are spawning to minimise the egg throwing distance.
  • If you’re about to use a Special but have ink to spare, throw a bomb at the Cohozuna and then use your Special to maximize your damage output. Here is a useful Cohozuna guide by Hazmy

Weapons

  • Weapons that are mobile and don’t deal much damage to the Cohozuna should prioritise bosses, lessers and bomb throws.
  • Powerful weapons such as Hydra and E-liter can deal great amounts of damage to the Cohozuna so they should be focusing on that. Teammates need to assist them by painting and protecting them from lessers and bosses.
  • Dynamo can deal damage to the Cohozuna if you roll in front of it but at some point it will lunge at you and could splat you. This strategy does require some skill and timing. See this Dynamo Roller guide by Hazmy
  • The Grizzco Stringer can deal massive damage to the Cohozuna if you fully charge and all the crosshairs are on the Cohozuna. Ideally you want to stay close to the Cohozuna and unleash fully charged shots.
  • Grizzco Splatana can also deal massive damage. But be very careful: Due to its short range, you may be caught out of position. Use the charge slide attack to escape tight spots.

Specials

  • Crab Tank: The strongest special at dealing direct damage to the Cohozuna. If you fire at the Cohozuna in turret mode it deals a great amount of damage and is very useful. It may be best to do this early on as later it could be too busy and you may not get full value. In most situations, only target the Cohozuna in turret mode and ignore everything else.
  • Inkjet: It does a fair amount of damage to the Cohozuna but it is probably best to save for any static bosses that may appear so they can be dealt with quickly.
  • Booyah Bomb: Great at dealing with crowd control and damaging the Cohozuna at the same time. Also useful if static bosses are difficult to reach or you have limited time so you can get rid of them with Booyah Bomb.
  • Triple Inkstrike: This deals minimal damage to the Cohozuna and is best saved for getting rid of static bosses such as Flyfish, Stingers and Fish Sticks.
  • Killer Wail: It does a limited amount of damage to the Cohozuna so it is best served to get rid of far bosses.
  • Reef Slider: Relatively weak special and should be used for either crowd control or splatting far bosses that may be difficult to reach safely.
  • Wave Breaker: If you need relief from lessers in and around the Cohozuna then Wave Breaker can be useful. It can also revive teammates who are nearby. Very useful to refill ink quickly if you are low in the middle of the wave.

Notes for Specials

  • Before using your Special, see if you have a full ink tank. If you do, consider throwing a bomb or an egg to use that ink which will be replenished once you activate your Special.
  • If you are low on ink, consider using your special to quickly refill your ink tank. Specials like Wave Breaker, Reef Slider, and Killer Wail would be ideal since these specials are relatively quick to use and you will be able to use your main and sub weapons immediately.
  • Notice if bosses aren’t being splatted fast enough. If you and your team are “behind” on bosses, consider using Specials to catch up with the bosses before the wave is out of control.
  • Try not to use your Special within the first 10 seconds of the wave as you and your team can take down bosses together with minimal enemies nearby. Try to optimise your Special towards the mid or end of the wave, whether it is damage on Cohozuna, splatting static bosses, general crowd control or a mixture of these reasons.

Horrorboros

General

  • The aim here is to defeat the Horrorboros within the time limit to receive a certain amount of bronze, silver or gold Fish Scales which can be used to unlock items. The amount of scales you receive is based on how fast you can defeat Horrorboros and there is a possible 2-13 on offer. See the SR Fact Sheet for more details on Fish Scale odds.
  • It is possible to deal damage to the Horrorboros by using your weapons and specials by directly aiming at the Horrorboros. Depending on the strength and range of your weapon the damage varies. If you defeat bosses, it is possible to throw eggs at the Horrorboros and deal a good amount of damage.
  • Eggs can also be used to defeat bosses which can be very useful. If it requires 1 egg to defeat a boss you get 3 eggs in exchange which is useful. Egg throwing doesn’t use up ink like regular waves too so maximise their potential.
  • Horrorboros circles the map in the same pattern and will shoot an ink whirlwind from it’s mouth. It has an estimated 55k HP which is more than the Cohozuna (40k), however there are strategies that make it easier to defeat.

Strategy

  • To defeat the Horrorboros as quickly as possible, splat bosses and throw the eggs at the mouth of the Horrorboros while it is charging it’s ink bomb. You will notice that the more eggs you throw directly at the ink bomb which has a HP of 2500p. It will begin to change colour. Once you have thrown enough eggs it will explode in the mouth of the Horrorboros and deal a great amount of damage.
  • You are still able to throw eggs at the body of the Horrorboros and deal damage which is still useful. But ideally if you can aim for the mouth, focus on this.
  • With Cohozuna it is based around staying close together as a team and trying to splat bosses in a focused area around the Cohozuna. However because Horrorboros is so large, the team is able to play a lot more freely and there is a greater emphasis on splatting bosses and throwing eggs at the ink bomb or body of the Horroboros.
  • If you have some downtime you can shoot at the Horroboros. While it may not feel like much damage, it is better than sitting and watching. It can be beneficial for higher DPS weapons – such as the Hydra Splatling. You can also shoot directly at the ink bomb in the mouth of the Horrorboros to help it explode.
  • If you are not able to make the ink bomb explode then the Horroboros will unleash a targeted ink whirlwind that can splat you. You are able to see where this is going to land if you look up, so be aware of this as you don’t want to get splatted.
  • On the larger maps, avoid chasing position to aim for the mouth of the Horrorboros if you only have one egg. This could get you splatted by tunnel visioning on it or Salmonids pile up in another area that you neglected. It is much easier to keep splatting bosses and when the Horrorboros’ mouth is closer to areas where you have accumulated eggs, you and the team can quickly aim for the ink bomb and make it explode quickly. Here is a useful Horrorboros guide by Hazmy

Weapons

  • Weapons with enough range can deal direct damage to the Horrorboros however because the explosion of the ink bomb in the mouth of the Horrorboros does so much damage, it is best to prioritise throwing eggs at it or shooting it directly.

Specials

  • Crab Tank: The strongest special at dealing direct damage to the Horrorboros. If you fire at the Horrorboros in turret mode it deals a great amount of damage to the ink bomb in the mouth of the Horrorboros and is very useful. It may be best to do this early on as later it could be too busy and you may not get full value..
  • Inkjet: It does a fair amount of damage to the ink bomb in the mouth of the Horrorboros. However it could be best used for boss splats as it can splat high priority bosses.
  • Booyah Bomb: Great at dealing with crowd control and damaging the Horrorboros at the same time. It can also be used to directly deal damage to the ink bomb in the mouth of the Horrorboros. Also useful if static bosses are difficult to reach or you have limited time so you can get rid of them with Booyah Bomb.
  • Triple Inkstrike: This deals minimal direct damage to the Horrorboros and is best saved for getting rid of static bosses such as Flyfish and Stingers and Fish Sticks.
  • Killer Wail: It does a limited amount of damage to the Horrorboros so it is best served to get rid of far bosses.
  • Reef Slider: Useful to manage crowd control however the explosion caused by the Reef Slider can help explode the ink bomb in the mouth of the Horroboros and deal a great amount of damage.
  • Wave Breaker: If you need relief from lessers then Wave Breaker can be useful. It can also revive teammates who are nearby. Very useful to refill ink quickly if you are low in the middle of the wave.

Notes for Specials

  • Before using your Special, see if you have a full ink tank. If you do, consider throwing a bomb to use that ink which will be replenished once you activate your Special.

Try to optimise your Special towards the mid or end of the wave, whether it is damage on Horrorboros, splatting static bosses, general crowd control or a mixture of these reasons.

Megalodontia

General

  • Megalodontia has a HP of 65,000 when over the hazard level of 60%.
  • This King Salmonid is like a giant Maws. It submerges in the ink and a large circle appears which is the radius of the area it will cover when it emerges. It will target 1 player who will have crosshairs placed on them.
  • Once the circle stops moving and the sound effects of the alarm become louder it will emerge.
  • Megalodontia is unique as it can splat anything within its radius when it emerges from the ink, including bosses.
  • The red pimple on its back with the X marked on it is the Megalodontia’s weak point. You deal 70% more damage by throwing eggs at the pimple as opposed to the body.

Strategy

  • One of the most important things to remember is that the back of the Megalodontia with the pimple will always face the direction from where it previously emerged from. Because the Megalodontia has such a high HP it is integral to maximise throwing eggs at the pimple so this should help you understand where to position yourself each time.
  • There are usually 2 opening strategies for the first targeted player: Either bring the Megalodontia to where the first bosses spawn to splat them all immediately or make it emerge away from the bosses so you can splat the bosses yourselves and throw those eggs at the pimple.
  • When you are the target of the Megalodontia try and move calmly so that teammates know where you are moving so they can go in the opposite direction. If you are too frantic, it could get you and other teammate’s splatted.
  • It’s usually best to move away from the previous area that the Megalodontia emerged from so it is easier to know where the pimple will appear and it’s easier to shoot.
  • On larger maps/tides if there are a large amount of golden eggs in a certain area, then try to bring the Megalodontia near that area so you can maximise damage. You don’t want the Megalodontia to be on the opposite side of the map and your teammates are too far to deal damage, which is a waste of time.
  • If you have a high DPS weapon such as like Hydra or Sploosh, then you may want prioritise shooting the pimple directly, especially if there aren’t many golden eggs nearby.
  • Megalodontia can be very tough on High Tide waves as the area is so small and it can take up so much space when it emerges. A few tips that may help: you can try and get the Megalodontia to emerge from the furthest ends of the map each time a player is targeted so it gives you as much space to move. If you see a group of bosses in a specific area then bring the Megalodontia there to help with splatting them all and sparing your teammates.

Weapons

  • Weapons with enough range can deal direct damage to the Megalodontia however it is best to prioritise throwing eggs at the pimple..

Specials

  • This is pretty simple, all specials should be used to splat bosses/lessers except for Crab Tank. That should be used to shoot directly at the pimple because it deals a great amount of damage. Other specials can deal damage to the pimple however it is often best to use them on bosses/lessers so when the Megalodontia emerges you are easily able to target the pimple.
  • It is best to use the Crab Tank early, as the wave may get more hectic later and prove difficult to get full value from this special.

Notes for Specials

  • Before using your Special, see if you have a full ink tank. If you do, consider throwing a bomb to use that ink which will be replenished once you activate your Special.
Try to optimise your Special towards the mid or end of the wave, whether it is damage on Megalodontia, splatting static bosses, general crowd control or a mixture of these reasons.

Triumvirate

General

  • A very useful video guide for the Triumvirate wave by Rachelski
  • May be wise to read the guides for the individual kings first as you may learn something new.
  • Remember that you do have 2 specials for this wave so be sure to use them both.
  • Avoid tunneling one king and ignoring what is around you. It can take a while to get revived as the kings can block you from get revived at times.
  • Try and empty your tank then use a special to instantly recharge your ink tank so you are able to be as efficient as possible with your output.

Kings

  • The kings characteristics and patterns are the same as normal Xtra Waves.
  • Megalodontia is the most important king during this wave as it can be used to help deal a good amount of damage to the other kings.
  • If Megalodontia is targeting you, try and lure it to where the Horrorboros’ mouth will be. If timed correctly, Megaldontia will burst Horrorboros’ ball and deal great damage.
  • Keep repeating this as ideally you want to eliminate Horroboros first as it’s blast can cause problems and splat teammates when they are busy focusing other bosses/Salmonids.
  • By doing the strategy above, you can focus on throwing golden eggs at the Cohozuna and Megalodontia to deal damage.
  • Cohozuna will target the closest player and if you are able to lure it into the Megalodontia circle it can also receive damage from the Megalodontia and keep those 2 bosses close together so they are easier to damage with your weapons or golden eggs.
  •

Weapons

  • Grizzco Charger: Arguably the best weapon for this wave type. It’s great at dealing damage directly to the Kings from a safe distance, this should be the focus for the majority of the wave. However if you need to help out with boss slaying then help your teammates when required.
  • Grizzco Stringer: Another great weapon for dealing direct damage to the Kings especially the Cohozuna and Megalodontia. Ideally you want to get all of the reticles aimed at the target to deal maximum damage. The downside of this weapons is the charge can take a while and you have to be relatively close for this. Awareness of your surroundings will be very important and keep your ink usage in mind too.
  • Grizzco Slosher & Splatana: Excel at slaying bosses quickly so use this to your advantage by moving around the map and slaying bosses while throwing the golden eggs from the bosses you’ve slayed. You can also deal direct damage to the bosses when you get a chance.
  • Grizzco Roller, Blaster, Brella and Dualies: These weapons have great mobility and inking so try and support the other teammates by being all rounders. Splat Salmonids ,ink the map and deal damage to the Kings when possible. Try and target bosses that your weapons excel at so it allows the more powerful weapons to focus on their role.

Specials

  • Crab Tank: The best special for dealing direct damage to the Kings. It may be best to use it early when there aren’t as many Salmonids on the map. Although it’s great at dealing damage to the Horroboros’ bomb, it’s ideal to target the Cohozuna and Megalodontia with this as you will be using the Megalodontia strategy mentioned earlier to deal damage to the Horrorboros. If you see that the Horrorboros’ ball is close to exploding you could target some shots at it.
  • Inkjet, Triple Inkstrike & Killer Wail: Both are great specials at splatting multiple static bosses from a distance. It is best to use them to help clear statics so there is more space for your teammates to work around and stay alive.
  • Booyah Bomb, Splashdown, Kraken & Reef Slider: Should be used to clear a concentrated area where there might be a cluster of Salmonids along with the Kings being in that area too so you can deal some damage to them also.
  • Wave Breaker: Not the most powerful for this wave type but If teammates get splatted or you need to clear lessers then this can be useful.
